A rare pair of Dutch Delft black-enhanced chinoiserie flattened calabash vases
Circa 1700, moulded with an X underneath the base
The octagonal body painted in colours in the Cachemire style, with a frontal panel depicting an exotic bird perched on a blossoming chrysanthemum branch, the reverse with a bird flying over a chrysanthemum branch issuing from rockwork, between lappets and flanked by trelliswork bands enhanced with flowerheads, divided with a panel of scrolling foliage reserved with two medallions depicting a bird and a rooster, the bulging upper part with waisted elongated neck decorated en suite, in a fitted case (one with restored neck, one with small chips to upper edge)
