A Westerwald stoneware dated armorial jug
Late 17th century
(Kugelbauchkrug) the grey globular body applied with a central wreathed medallion depicting the portraits of William III (1650-1702) and Mary Stuart (1662-1695) holding regalia, surmounted by a crown and flanked by a winged angel and the intertwined English rose and Dutch orange branches, above the inscription in Dutch vivons hollantse tuyn soo blooyen oranienappellen en roosen (hail our Dutch garden, may the oranges and the roses bloom) and 1691, further with incised and applied scrolling flowers, the upright cylindrical neck ribbed, with loop handle ending in a curling tail (very small restorations to the front)
