PIRANESI, Francesco. Vedute di Roma. [Paris: circa 1800].

Large oblong 2° (520 x 640). Etched title, etched map Pianta di Roma e del Campo Marzio on 3 sheets, joined and folding, 67 etched views of Rome (of 136), most with address, but with price erased and with some reworking. (Traces of old creases down the centre of each plate, minor light spotting or staining to margins.) Late 19th century Italian paper-covered boards, ruled in gilt, upper cover titled in gilt (upper joint cracked at head and foot).

This fine group of Rome views from Francesco Piranesi's 1st Paris edition. The etchings in this collection comprise Hind numbers 1,3-32,34,37,46-48,51-53,58,59,64,66,71,79,80,81,87-89,91,101-108,117- 122,124,125,128. All the plates, except 8, conform to Hind's 1st Paris edition, namely have address, but with price erased, and where appropriate have been further reworked or have numbers. Eight plates (Hind numbers 11,15,19,24,25,31,59,66) have the price as well as the address, an indication of a late Roman impression of these plates. This copy has been rebound in Italy in the mid to late 19th century, the plate order being rearranged geographically. Hind pp. 39-71.
