A GEORGE III SILVER VEGETABLE DISH AND COVER WITH MATCHING OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE HOT WATER STAND AND LINER

Shaped-oblong, the dish with gadrooned border, the domed cover chased with bands of flutes and with detachable leaf-capped reeded ring handle, the openwork stand on four lion's paw feet and with gadrooned borders and two leaf-capped bracket handles, the dish engraved twice with a crest, the cover twice with a coat-of-arms, marked on dish, cover and handle - the dish 13¼in. (33.5cm.) long

The arms are those of Marjoribanks with the cadency mark of a martlet for the fourth son imapling Lautour for Edward Marjoribanks Esq. (1776-1868) and his wife Georgina, daughter of Joseph Francis Louis Lautour. Edward Marjoribanks was a parnter in Coutts Bank form 1796 until his death. He was the fourth son of Edward Marjoribanks of Lees, Co.Berwick. His brother John was created a baronet and Edward and Georgina's son, Sir Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, was created Lord Tweedmouth
