maker's mark of John Parker and Edward Wakelin, London, 1772

Shaped-circular and on three scroll feet, each with gadrooned border and engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on reverse - 13in. (33cm.) diam.

The arms are those of Ingram with Shepherd in pretence for Charles Ingram, 10th Viscount Irvine (d.1768) and his wife, Miss Shepherd, an heiress of considerable fortune, whom he married in 1778. He was chosen as one of the representative peers of Scotland in 1768. He died ten years later at his seat, Temple Newsom, near Leeds (2)
