LANDI, Gaetano. Architectural Decorations: A periodical work of original designs invented from the Egyptian; The Greek: the Roman...for exterior and interior decoration. London: Thomas King, 1810.
2° (560 x 400mm). Engraved title, 24 hand-coloured engraved and aquatint plates by D'Argenzio after Landi (numbered 1-6 and 1-18), two additional hand-coloured plates by Landi? of oriental rooms loosely inserted. (Lower margins dampstained throughout affecting the edges of the engraved area.) Contemporary morocco backed boards (worn).
A very rare series of unusual room designs in the Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Etruscan and Gothic manner; the work was issued in parts from January to March 1810 by Landi from his address at the Sabloniere Hotel, Leicester Square. Very little is known about Landi, who describes himself as a Professor of the University of Bologna, although he may well have been involved in theatrical design. The work is dedicated to the Marquis of Douglas, former ambasssador of Russia, and through correspondence with Sir Hans Sloane, we know that Landi intended to go to Russia at the end of 1810.
