Lot Essay

A number of other examples of this model are known, including bronzes in the Bargello, the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum. It is generally agreed that the playful admixture of different animal elements is inspired by the works of Riccio in Padua, although the inventor of this lamp presumably belonged to the next generation.
