Dark reddish-brown patina; cast in several sections; both bows and the strings of Achilles' lyre lacking.

Lot Essay

This group, of which a number of versions are known, was inspired by Jean-Baptiste Regnault's monumental canvas entitled L'Éducation d'Achille par le centaure Chiron, which was exhibited at the Salon of 1783, and was also his morceau de réception at the Academy in the same year.
