A cabinet photograph of Geronimo, (Indian name Goyathlay), Chief of the Chiricahua Apache. Signed Geronimo on back (the signature copied in pencil in lower margin of mount) in pencil in his characteristic block style, n.d., [back with date in another hand 26 September 1902]. Back of mount with rubberstamp of early owner "R.A. Ewing, Oklahoma City, OK.", and pencilled characterization of Geronimo as "the worst Indian that ever lived." Geronimo signed a number of photographs in his later years, particularly when he appeared as an "attraction" at the Pawnee Bill Wild West Shows, signing photographs for a $2.00 fee--6½ x 4¼ in.--matted and framed.
