A ROMAN BRONZE FIGURE OF A BULL
circa 1st century a.d.
Depicted stepping forward, his left front hoof raised, his head lifted and turned slightly to the left, details of the musculature and the pliant folds of the dewlap naturalistically modeled, with curving horns above projecting ears, the bulging eyes with detailed pupils below arching brows, the poll a mass of curling locks, the nostrils indented, the tassel of the tail against his right flank, the genitalia indicated, the back of the head perforated for attachment of a now missing attribute (an Apis crown?), an additional perforation in the middle of the back
