THREE BYZANTINE SILVER BELT BUCKLES
circa early 7th century a.d.
One with a kidney-shaped loop, a massive tongue open below, and a lyre-type attachment plate hinged to the loop, the plate in the form of a bridge joined to two leaves and a drop-shaped tip with ribbed edges, the tip enclosing a cruciform monogram, with tooled ornament on the tongue, bridge and leaves, three fastening loops below; one with a kidney-shaped loop, the tongue with a basal rectangle with a punched cross, both hinged to a cast openwork triangular plate containing bird heads and tendrils, with projecting tendrils and a disc-shaped terminal incised with a cruciform monogram, other engraved details throughout; and one with an oval loop, the tongue with a horse head and duck head at its base, both hinged to the cast openwork plate composed of foliate motifs
