A PAIR OF VISIGOTHIC BRONZE BROOCHES
circa 6th century a.d.
Each cast with a flat, semi-circular head-plate with seven radiating knobs, three of which are set with a yellow-green glass cabochon at the base, the plate decorated with three zones of concentric stepped patterns in relief, the high bow with three ribs, with semi-circular zones where the bow joins the head and foot, the elongated tongue-shaped foot-plate decorated with a central cross surrounded by a concentric stepped patterns, with two perforated circular projections at the side, and a profiled terminal set with a yellow-green glass cabochon, the back of the foot-plate with a projecting loop originally attached to a now-missing chain connecting the two brooches
