Each painting has a central figure of Buddha Shakyamuni seated on a lotus, the right hand in bhumisparshamudra or varadamudra, wearing cloak, surrounded by many scenes depicting stories from his previous lives, each inscribed in gold dBu-can script, the reverse of each painting with elaborate inscription in a fine dBu.med script describing the depicted jataka scene, in brocate mounting
