A RARE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER RUYI
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The sceptre is finely carved through a thick layer of lacquer to the black diaper ground with ribboned Buddhist emblems scattered amidst lotus scrolls, the ruyi head with the canopy, double-fish, vase and lotus, the arched handle with a central panel enclosing a conch-shell, eternal knot and parasol, and the square terminal with the Wheel of Law, the reverse with a dense design of wan symbols (minor extremity chips)
