A CIZHOU CARVED BROWN-GLAZED MEIPING
SONG DYNASTY

The well-potted body freely carved in linear technique with a wide band of a lotus spray reserved on a striated ground, all between two line borders, with a pair of ribbed strap handles flanking the neck and reel-shaped mouth rim, the finely speckled glaze of dark olive-brown color ending in a slightly uneven line at the broad foot rim, interior of the base also glazed and the carved decoration burnt pale reddish color in the firing (one handle restored, small rim chips)
