A PAIR OF RARE TURQUOISE AND CORAL-INLAID ZITAN HAT STANDS
18TH CENTURY

Each supported on a rounded, circular base resting on five peg feet carved as two bands of radiating petals inlaid in turquoise and coral, the slender, fluted stands interrupted by a central cylindrical knop inlaid with further turquoise and rising to a flattened cushion hat rest forming a container and similarly decorated with turquoise and coral, the containers with shallow, domed covers carved as chrysanthemum heads surmounted by small turquoise finials carved as recumbent rams (some inlay replaced or damaged)

Hat stands were made of many different materials including jade, porcelain, enamelled metal, and wood.
