Lady Elizabeth Whitbread (1765-1788) was the eldest daughter of Sir Carles Grey, later 1st Earl Grey. In 1789 she married Samuel Whitbread, the founder of Whitbread's brewery who died tragically in 1815. In March 1904 The Lady's Monthly Museum published a portrait of her and described her as 'a model of domestic conduct, which, more than the rank she holds in society, her personal beauty or even her mental accomplishment, has induced us to select her from amongst our fair country women ... as an object of imitation to the young'.
