A Japanese gold lacquer dish decorated in the Shibayama-style to the centre in ivory, mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell and hardstones with Hotei seated leaning against his treasure sack holding a fan surrounded by butterflies and various attributes, within panels to the rim decorated in gold hiramakie and coloured lacquer with the Twelve Animals of the Zodiac on alternating nashiji and black grounds, the reverse decorated with scattered hirame and a monkey holding a large jar (crack, rubbed, some inlay missing) -- 8¼in.diam., Signed Gyokukendo.
