Lot Essay

Louis-François Lécos (Lécot?) was active at Sèvres as a painter of Chinoiseries, flowers and butterflies 1763-1764, 1773-1802. He is also recorded in the factory archives as a gilder, although the spelling of his name is unclear.

Henry-Martin Prévost was active at Sèvres as a gilder 1757-1797.
The marks R.F (République Française) and Sèvres were used by the factory between 1793-1800.

The present cup and saucer is the same shape and size as those made for Marie-Antoinette for the Dairy at Rambouillet. Cf. Svend Eriksen and Geoffrey de Bellaigue, Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1987, p. 161, no. 63, p. 162, no. 82, pp. 350-351, no. 156
