London: Macmillan 1881. 3 vols., 8vo, original dark blue-green fine bead-grain cloth, blocked in black and blind, spines gilt-lettered, bottom edges uncut, 1 1/4-inch tear at top of front outer joint of vol. 2, slight wear to front outer joint of vol. 1, light wear at most fore-corners, some light staining and spotting to covers, most endpapers cracked at inner hinges; cloth folding case. FIRST EDITION, one of 750 copies, 24-page publisher's catalogue at end of vol. 3 dated April, 1881 (BAL's Printing B of the ads -- an earlier catalogue was dated January, 1881). Despite defects, a very good copy of an extremely scarce book in collector's condition.
