POUND, EZRA. Ripostes. London: Swift 1912. 8vo, original streaky gray cloth, uncut, spine slightly darkened; half morocco slipcase. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE (of probably no more than 100 copies), PRESENTATION COPY to the feminist and novelist May Sinclair, inscribed by the poet on front free endpaper (slight offset on inscription from clipping opposite): "May Sinclair from E.P., Nov 30 - 1912"; with the publisher's inserted advertisement leaves at end excised, as in some presentation copies distributed after the business failure of the publisher Swift in early November. Pound and May Sinclair were very close friends and remained so for many years; it was she who possibly introduced Pound to Ford Madox Ford in early 1909. Pasted to inside front cover is a news-clipping of a tribute by Sinclair to Pound's poetry. Gallup A8a.
