Lot Essay

H.M.S. Edgar 5157 tons, was a screw-masted 2nd rate launched at Woolwich in 1858. Mounting a total of 91 guns, she was 230 feet in length and carried a crew of 820. After her active service career was over, she acted as a quarantine ship at the Motherbank, off the Isle of Wight, for many years and was eventually sold out of the Navy in 1904.
