Chancery 8° (145 x 96 mm.). Collation: A-H8. 64 numbered leaves. Gothic type 83 mm., 28 lines. Woodcut of a game in progress on title-page (same block as 4th ed.), woodcuts of the six chessmen (same blocks as 5th ed.), 92 woodcut chess diagrams (same blocks as 4th ed.). (Short tear in title slightly affecting cut, tears in last two leaves slightly affecting text). Contemporary vellum (loose). Provenance: purchase date (1592) and price inscribed on back pastedown.
