A 19th-Century lacquered brass surveyor's compass, signed on the silvered dial W & L E Gurley Troy, N.Y., with finely engraved scales on blued-steel edge-bar needle on jewelled pivot with clamp, with rack and pinion vernier adjustment, level and cross-bubble, twin sights, covered plate and counter dial in makers original mahogany case with trade label - 13 3/8in. (34cm.) wide; and the associated tripod and levelling staff.
