Menasseh ben Israel (1604-1657), Rabbi, author and printer, of Marrano origin, was a friend of the artist. He was drawn by Rembrandt in the Jewish quarter of Amsterdam where he spent most of his life. (See: M.H. Gans, Memorbook p. 73 illustrated).
