H.M. PRINCE WILLIAM, DUKE OF CLARENCE
A 1p. a.l.s. by William, dated Bushy House, Sunday, 11 o'clock [no year], to an unknown clergyman, summoning him to dinner on the assumption that Mrs. Jordan, his mistress, who has been in labour for five hours, will soon give birth; another 1p. a.l.s. dated Hanover, May 9, 1819, to his steward, J. W. Daniell, at Bushy, sending a list of books which are on their way to the library at Bushy together with a separate, locked box of letters and papers, and advising him to ask Mrs. Fitzgerald for help with the German books; together with an envelope addressed in William's hand to his son, the Hon. Augustus FitzClarence and franked 'The King'; all three mounted together, framed and glazed.

Lot Essay

Dorothy Jordon (1762-1816), the actress, lived with William, Duke of Clarence as his mistress from 1791-1811, and bore him ten children. In 1818 William married Adelaide, daughter of the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen.
