A mid-Victorian ebonised, marquetry and bone inlaid side cabinet, the stepped top with spindle-turned gallery above Greek-key, anthemion and trailing ribbon inlaid frieze with central ribbon-tied laurel-leaf swag tablet above simulated triglyph and central arched glazed door enclosing shelves flanked by arched doors with scroll and drapery swags and roundel of classical bust, flanked by pilasters with angular scroll capitals, on plinth base -- 59½in. (151cm.) wide, 16½in. (42cm.) deep, 51in. (130cm.) high.
This display cabinet, designed in the Etruscan or Greek manner, with medallions of military heroes and central tablet and pilasters embellished with laurel festooned trophies of crossed spears, relates to the 'Juno cabinet', designed by Bruce Talbert and exhibited by Messrs Jackson & Graham at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878.
