A mid-Victorian walnut, ebonised, marquetry and bone and mother-of-pearl inlaid bureau plat,in the manner of E.H.Baldock, the eared serpentine top centred by oval panel of vase, flowers and birds surrounded by strapwork and scroll border with birds, flowers and cherubs above similarly inlaid frieze drawers on cabriole legs, lacks sabots - 54in. (137cm) wide, 29in. (74cm) deep, 29in (74cm) high.
The use of scrolling cartouches, bold naturalistic floral and bird motifs and mother-of-pearl and bone inlay on an ebony ground is reminiscent of furniture supplied by the dealer E.H.Baldock, often with marquetry by the Blake family.
