A George IV baluster lidded quart tankard on a rim foot, with a reeded rim and foliate-cast and chased scroll handle, the body applied with a frieze of acorns and oak leaves and a further frieze of the floral emblems of the British Isles, the domed hinged cover with shell, floral and foliate border, openwork scroll thumbpiece and bud and foliate finial, the front engraved: "This Tankard was Presented by the Inhabitants of Tewkesbury on 27th day of June 1826 to their Church Warden Mr J M. Packer as a lasting Memorial of their general approbation of his Taste and Judgement in the Reparations of the Abbey Church and of his conscientious Fulfilment of the other duties of his Important Office", a stylised vignette of the front elevation of the Abbey above, John Edward Terrey, London 1825 - 8¾in., 39.50oz.

John Packer was Mayor of Tewkesbury on three occasions, and devoted much of his terms in office to restoring the Abbey Church. This piece was presented to him by the grateful citizens of the town.
