An extremely fine and important early 18th Century 50/54 gun Navy Board box and fruitwood rigged model of an English fourth rate of 1702, representing the Establishment of 1703. --19 x 36in (73.7 x 91.5cm). With bound masts, yards with footropes, standing and running rigging with scale blocks and deadeyes and some left hand wound rope work. Deck details include carved lion figurehead, hair rails, heads, gratings, catheads, belaying rails and bitts, detailed stove, stove pipe, bell with carved canopy over, cleats, deck rings, capstan on two decks, companionways, guns in carriages, poop deck quarter cabins with open doors, glazed stern and quarter galleries decorated with gilded mythical figures, acanthus leaves, swags and other carvings. The hull, partially planked to reveal ribs, knees and deck beams, with partially planked deck, is finished in lacquer with extensive black and gilded decoration and venetian red bulwarks, (some minor restoration, some old worn holes). Carved gilded stand.
