Warring States period Han dynasty, 5th century BC-1st century AD
The first of elongated rectangular shape inlaid in gold and silver with a geommetrical scrolling pattern, animal-head terminal, encrustations, 9 7/8 in. (25.2 cm.) long; another cast as a twisted dragon and gilded, hook cracked, 6¼ in. (15.9 cm.) long; another, modelled in the shape of a cicada, 5 in. (12.6 cm.) long; another cast in two parts as interlocking tigers facing each other, the details finely cast in low-relief, 6¾ in. (17.1 cm.) long; the last cast with a central figure of a mythical beast with three long horns and short beak devouring a separately cast fish, a dragon-head hook at one end and a bifurcated tail at the other, inlaid with gold, silver, and turquoise, 2 3/8 in. (6.2 cm.) long. (5)
