FANNY HOLCROFT (d. 1844?]
A fifty-eight-page manuscript in two different hands, entitled: "Goldsmith, a Melo Drama in 2 Acts," [n.d], 4°, contemporary half calf, spine gilt (upper cover loose).

Lot Essay

Attributed to Fanny Holcroft, the daughter of the dramatist Thomas Holcroft (1745-1809), who published at least two plays and an original novel. The fact that this, clearly juvenile, play has an all-female Dramatis Personae suggest that she may have written it while still at school. The drama, apparently set in France, features Cardillac, the avaricious villain; Oliver, the hero; Isabella, Count Roseberg and others.
