An exhibition standard 1 3/16in:1ft scale model of a Boulton and Watt single cylinder bell crank engine of circa 1802 built by A. Mount. Measurements overall - 15 x 13 7/8in. (38.1 x 35.3cm.)
With tank mounted cylinder 1¼in. bore x 2in. stroke, flywheel mounted eccentric ring and lever operated 'D' valve, gibbed and cottered connecting rods with split brasses, rod driven air pump, condenser mounted inside the condensate tank, spoked flywheel and square power take-off shaft, square headed nuts, studded stuffing boxes and other details, finished in black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated stone floor. NOTE: This design of stationary engine by William Murdoch and a Mr Southern, was an early attempt to provide a small self contained power source that did not require an engine house to support it. Production commenced in 1797 and continued until 1806.
