The above medal is hallmarked for 1947 and as such represents the 1947-48 F.A.Cup final, played at Wembley on 24th April 1948 before 99,000 spectators, when Manchester United defeated Blackpool 4-2.

Although uninscribed, the above medal was awarded to the famous centre/inside-forward Stan Mortensen. Mortensen, who led the line for Blackpool and England in the late 1940's and early 1950's was participating in his first of three F.A. Cup final's with Blackpool (the others being 1951 and 1953). An exceptional striker both for his club and country, Mortensen will forever be remembered as the hat-trick hero of the famous 'Matthews final' of 1953. He was born at South Shields in May 1921 and made his first of 25 full International appearances for England in 1947.
