AN OLD BABYLONIAN CUNEIFORM CLAY TABLET
CIRCA 1900-1700 B.C.
With 25 lines of text on the observe and 6 on the reverse, in a small, neat scribal hand concerning a man named Warâ who had fallen into debt to two named individuals, the writer appears to have been in the service of the two individuals and also a friend of Warâ, he writes urging that Warâ is spared the force of the law, whilst offering to pay the debts with sesame, the text continuing "...All the sesame which I have in excess I will pay to you and satisfy you in anything you do to me. Do not pester free citizens!...In no way [pester] Warâ. Send me a reply to my letter!", chip to one corner; and another Old Babylonian cuneiform clay tablet, with 30 lines of text forming a letter between private persons about their business affairs, the writer being a wealthy individual on whom the recipient depends for a plot of agricultural land on which to make his living, the latter appearing to have been exploiting his patron, circa 1900-1700 B.C., chip on reverse
