AN OLD BABYLONIAN HAEMATITE CYLINDER SEAL
CIRCA 1900-1600 B.C.
With a worshipper standing before a deity who holds a vase overflowing with two streams and swimming fish, a goat-fish above, a second scene with a worshipper before the goddess Ishtar who holds a double lion-headed sceptre, her attribute lion at her feet; a Persian bitumen cylinder seal with two friezes of leaves alternating with pomegranate-like fruits or flower buds, the central frieze of alternating rhombs and waisted rectangles; another, with a seated figure drinking from a cup while an attendant stands before holding up a fan, behind is wine making equipment, a conical vat with a pot underneath to receive the liquid, a solar-star above and rhomb in the field, both circa 1200-800 B.C.; a Neo-Babylonian chalcedony cylinder seal wheel-cut with a winged hero wielding a scimitar-sword in contest with a winged sphinx, a plant in front with winged solar-disc above, circa 900-700 B.C.; and a Neo-Assyrian burnt cornelian cylinder seal with an armed god (Adad?), a sword at his waist and holding a mace being approached by a worshipper, a triangular spade of the god Marduk, a crescent, star, the Pleiades, a rhomb, a fish and an ibex in the field, small chips, circa 900-750 B.C.
