EARLY BRONZE AGE, CIRCA 2000-1900 B.C.
Of Slab type, nose and breasts in relief, with downward curving rudimentary arms and protruding double-pierced semicircular ears, incised holes for the eyes and nostrils and a horizontal slit for the mouth, with incised decoration indicating stylized headdress, neck-band, drapery over the shoulders and skirt, the reverse with vertical wavy lines for hair, mounted
7 3/8 in. (18.8 cm.) high
Provenance
Formerly in the Lawrence collection, a red ink inscription on the reverse reads: "Lawrence Coll. Sotheby, Lot 525. Apr. 1892. p. 818".
