THREE NETSUKE
Edo/Meiji Period (Mid/Late 19th Century)
The first: manju type; stained ivory; one side with Jurojin, God of Longevity, in sunk relief, the other side with a crane; signed with incised and stained characters Horyu, with a kao; 1 13/16in. (4.6cm.) diam.;
the second: kagami type; a disc of lacquered wood carved in openwork with a Chinese figure floating on a crane with pine trees forming the background, inset with a shibuichi [copper-silver alloy] panel decorated in flat inlay with a plum tree and the characters Kanko fugetsu [Chill perfume of the floating moon]; with incised signature Ikkin; 1 7/8in. (4.7cm.) diam.;
the third: kagami type; a wood disc decorated with gold flakes set in lacquer and pierced with a large and small hole forming a himotoshi, set with a stone carved in low relief with cranes and the sun or moon; unsigned; 1½in. (3.9cm.) diam.
