LOKOYA WINERY
This branch of Kendall-Jackson, under the direction of winemaker Chris Carpenter, was founded in 1995 and focuses on vineyard and/or appellation-oriented Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots. The Lokoya name honours the Native American tribe who lived on Mount Veeder in the western mountains of the Napa Valley prior to the arrival of viticulture in the 19th century. Paying tribute to those who farmed these Napa soils before us, Lokoya Cabernets reflect the soils and microclimates of the Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignons from Mount Veeder and Diamond Mountain express some of Napa Valley's most prestigious vineyards.
Lokoya Mount Veeder, Cabernet Sauvignon--Vintage 1995
Napa Valley
Tasting note: A big, ripe and firmly tannic style, dense, chunky and chewy, but wade past the tannins and you'll get a glimpse of a complex, concentrated wine. Wine Spectator, November 1999.
