A set of four George II silver candlesticks
Maker's mark of Henry Dutton, London, 1756, one nozzle with maker's mark of William Fountain, London, 1808
Each on spreading bases chased with floral swags, acanthus leaves and egg-and-dart border, with fluted Corinthian column stem and socket and detachable shaped square nozzle, the bases engraved with a coat-of-arms within rococo cartouche and later with a crest within the Garter motto and with marquess' coronet above, marked on bases and nozzles, each numbered and engraved with scratchweights '1 19=15½, 2 20=1, 3 19=15½, 4 19=10'
13½in. (34.5cm.) high
The arms are those of Stewart, probably for Alexander Stewart Esq. (1699-1781), of Mount Stewart, co. Down and Ballylawn Castle, co. Donegal. He was M.P. for Londonderry and married Mary, daughter and heir of Sir Robert Cowan Kt., Governor of Bombay. His eldest son Robert was created 1st Marquess of Londonderry in 1816.

The later crest is that of Stewart for either Robert, 2nd Marquess of Londonderry (1769-1822) or his half-brother Charles, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry (1778-1854) (4)
