A LATE GEORGE III WHITE STATUARY MARBLE CHIMNEYPIECE
The rectangular shelf above a stepped moulded cornice and a fluted frieze centred by an urn, the side jambs headed by wheatsheaves, with ribbon-tied trailing oak leaves, on plinth bases, with later fluted black-painted iron fireback and later portor marble rectangular hearth
Overall: 53 in. (135 cm.) high; 71½ in. (182 cm.) wide; 6 in. (15 cm.) deep
Aperture: 38½ in. (98 cm.) high; 40½ in. (103 cm.) wide
The fireback: 46¼ in. (117.5 cm.) high; 49 in. (124.5 cm.) wide; 6¾ in. (17 cm.) deep

Bought by The Corporation of Lloyd's for Room 208 (the Senior Deputy Chairman's Office from 1958-1986) of the 1958 Building.

Lot Essay

This chimneypiece was acquired by the Corporation of Lloyd's for their 1958 building. This building is now being demolished and its chimneypieces are surplus to requirements.
