A GEORGE III STYLE WHITE AND SIENA MARBLE CHIMNEYPIECE
19th Century
The breakfront stepped cornice with a simulated dentilled border, above a simulated fluted frieze centred by an urn, the simulated fluted columns headed by musical trophies and on plinth bases, with a fitted register grate with beaded borders and double-barred basket flanked by urn finials and above a pierced apron, with later portor marble rectangular hearth, the Siena marble aperture slip of later date
63½ in. (161 cm.) high; 76¾ in. (195 cm.) wide; 6¼ in. (16 cm.) deep
The register grate: 44½ in. (113 cm.) high; 42½ in. (107 cm.) wide; 8 in. (20 cm.) deep
Provenance
Bought by The Corporation of Lloyd's for Room 206 (the Chairman's Ante Room from 1958-1986) of the 1958 Building.

Lot Essay

This chimneypiece was acquired by the Corporation of Lloyd's for their 1958 building. This building is now being demolished and its chimneypieces are surplus to requirements.
