Lot Essay

These chairs are probably part of the white-painted and parcel-gilt suite of seat furniture, comprising twelve armchairs and a settee, that was sold by David Campion, Esq. at Sotheby's London, 13 May 1960. The suite formed part of the 18th Century drawing-room furnishings of Danny House, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, where it had remained until the Sotheby's sale.
It was at Danny, on 13 October 1918 that the terms for an Armistice with Germany were drawn up.
