AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
Attributed to the Meleager Painter
Circa Early 4th Century B.C.
The obverse with four youthful revelers, all nude but for mantles over their shoulders, the pair in the center with their arms over each other's shoulders, one holding a torch, the figure to the left walking to the left but looking back, the figure to the right looking on, his head thrown back; the reverse with a winged Eros, holding a strigil and a fillet in added red, standing between a draped youth to the left and a woman in a peplos and himation to the right; the scenes framed on either side by a double row of dots, with tongues on the shoulder, a band of laurel on the neck, a double row of dots on the rim, a band of leaves on the upper surface of the rim, and laurel with berries on the handle plates
