A GREEK TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF DIONYSUS
Hellenistic Period
Circa 3rd-2nd Century B.C.
Perhaps from Myrina, the youthful god standing on an integral plinth, wearing a thick fillet and a mantle draped over his left shoulder and fore-arm, exposing his right shoulder, his left hand holding the mantle hem in front, forming a pocket for gathered fruit, his lowered right hand holding a bunch of grapes, a dog below, perhaps a maltese, raised on its hind-legs, preserving traces of original pink and blue pigment throughout, a two-character workshop signature on the reverse
7 7/8 in. (19.7 cm) high
