A Japanese gilt-brass and hardwood striking table clock with calendar (MAKURA-DOKEI)
Second half 19th century
The case engraved with flowers and leaves to the front and flanked by four ringed pillars, on rectangular hardwood base with key drawer to the rear, the revolving brass dial with adjustable blued steel chapters and stationary pierced blued steel hand to the centre, a calendar aperture to one side, the movement with four ringed and baluster pillars with chain fusee for the going train with verge escapement with rear-mounted calibrated brass pendulum with adjustable silvered and engraved peony bob, with engraved and pierced brass backcock in the form of a bird, the strike train with single barrel with countwheel positioned on the florally engraved backplate and striking on a flattened bell above, mounted within a hardwood case with gilt-brass handle to the top, glazed side panels and glazed sliding panels to front and rear
