An Italian brass armillary sphere
18th/19th Century
The sunball at the centre with a vertical band around it along one side of which runs the earth ball, the other side with two hemispheres fixed to represent Mercury and Venus, with unengraved colures, polar, tropic and equatorial rings, the ecliptic band graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac in Italian with sigils, Aries with a raised brass sunburst, the meridian circle graduated in degrees in four quadrants on one side, and with Pollo Artico, Pollo Antartico and Meridiano engraved on the other, several roughly engraved notes on the inner edges of the bands (several splits to bands), the horizon ring graduated in degrees with wind directions in Italian, on four quadrant supports to a baluster-turned and ebonised column and stepped circular plinth base
