Signed on the underside of the compass box J.N. Hölde. Late 18th Century
The equinoctial dial with hour ring engraved with hours III-XII, I-IX, sprung gnomon, folding latitude arm graduated 12°-80°, the glazed compass with blued-steel needle, wind rose and wind directions initials in Italian, the horizontal plate with engraved decoration around the edge and cut corners, a central motif of floral, foliate and fruit decoration surrounded by a second hour scale IIII-XII, I-VIII for a string gnomon dial, the folding gnomon support in the form of a courtly gentleman, the underside of the compass box with signature and the latitudes of Danzig, Pisa, Stockholm and Luisberg - 4¾ in. (12 cm.) wide; a simple 19th Century compass sundial, the glazed compass with a folding gnomon and hour scale 4-12, 1-8 and stamped A. HACKER IN PRAG, on a square horizontal plate with two adjustable screw feet - 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) square; a simple glazed brass-cased compass with steel needle, graduations around the circumference in four quadrants and a fleur-de-lys for north with L, M and P for East, South and West, with threaded lid - 4½ in. (10.8 cm.) diameter; a decorative brass astrolabe, with five plates, rete and alidade; and a decorative astrolabe mater (5)
