A Continental gilt-metal striking crucifix clock
Probably German. First quarter 17th Century
The re-gilt case of typical form on hexagonal base cast with fruit and foliage supporting the balustraded bell gallery, the naturalistically cast base with gilt-metal cross supporting the Corpus Christi with revolving gilt sphere above, with brass Arabic chapter ring, and at the foot the figures of Mary and St. John with silvered crossed bones between, the largely re-built movement with circular gilt-brass plates, going barrel with re-built stackfreed, verge escapement now with brass three-armed balance and bridgecock (previous regulation dots still visible), the strike train with going barrel and re-built blued steel calibrated countwheel; re-gilt and with restorations
