A French gilt-metal hexagonal striking table clock

The hexagonal case engraved on all six sides with formalised strapwork interlaced with creeping vine, later base, the dome elaborately pierced and engraved with grotesque masks, the florally engraved gilt-metal dial plate with later applied Roman chapter ring with later blued steel hand, the movement of transitional type with a mixture of steel and brass framework, the two sections with the strike section within the lower frame with steel columns with enthesis, resting on bun feet enclosing the steel countwheel on the underside of the base plate, the upper movement with brass pillars enclosing a brass spring barrel with brass pinned caps, the narrow fusee with lower pinion giving indirect drive via a crown wheel to the motion work, verge escapement now with altered balance cock and balance wheel atop the plates
